The intriguing saga of Calvin Miller's potential return to Celtic has taken an unexpected twist. Just as the transfer window was nearing its end, Miller was informed that a deal for his return to Celtic had fallen through, despite reports suggesting that an agreement with Falkirk had been secured.
This surprising turn of events was brought to light by former Celtic player Charlie Mulgrew, who revealed that the situation developed quite unexpectedly as the deadline approached.
Calvin Miller, who began his football journey in the youth academy at Celtic, made his first-team debut under manager Brendan Rodgers in 2016. He entered the spotlight around the same time as fellow player Anthony Ralston, both considered promising talents at the club.
However, Miller’s tenure at Celtic was marred by challenging loan spells at Dundee and Ayr United, which ultimately led to his departure. In 2020, he signed with Harrogate Town, later making moves to Notts County and Greenock Morton before joining Falkirk in 2023. At Falkirk, Miller has established himself as a key player, significantly contributing to the team's back-to-back promotions to the top tier under the guidance of manager John McGlynn.
According to Mulgrew, the negotiations for Miller's return to Celtic were virtually finalized, but the move was unexpectedly halted just hours before the transfer window closed. On the Go Radio Football Show, Mulgrew shared insights on the matter, saying, "It happens both ways, though. I know that Celtic were trying to get Calvin Miller. He thought he was in the door. His agent got a call two days before [the deadline] saying that it’s ready to be done, they want him, and he was delighted to go back to Celtic.
"By 8:30 PM on the night the transfer window closed, the deal was supposedly finalized—though, as we know, these situations often involve multiple moving parts. I’m not sure where Calvin stood in their priority list; perhaps he was a second choice, believing he was on the verge of a dream return to Celtic when things took a sudden turn. He received the news at 8:30 PM that the deal was off, highlighting the unpredictable nature of transfer negotiations. This is precisely why such discussions can extend for so long."
