iOS 26.3: Fresh Features for iPhone — A Deeper Dive into the Update

Apple rolled out the first iOS 26.3 beta this week, targeting broader compatibility between iPhone and Android devices and expanding support for third-party smartwatches. Here’s a comprehensive look at what iOS 26.3 brings so far, along with what to expect as the beta evolves.

iOS 26.3 new features
Android transfer
The centerpiece of iOS 26.3 is a new “Transfer to Android” feature that simplifies moving from an iPhone to an Android device. This capability came out of a collaborative effort between Apple and Google, aiming to bridge the gap between the two ecosystems.

In parallel, the latest Android beta is introducing a reciprocal mechanism for shifting from Android to iPhone, signaling a shared push toward cross-platform interoperability.

How it works. In Settings, you’ll see a prompt to place your Android device next to the iPhone to initiate the transfer. Once connected, you can wirelessly migrate a wide range of data — photos, messages, notes, apps, and more — to the new Android device. The process also transfers your phone number.

Apple cautions that certain sensitive information will not migrate to Android, including Health data, Bluetooth device pairings, and locked notes. The teams behind iOS and Android say they plan to expand the data types supported as beta testing continues.

Notification forwarding
iOS 26.3 also introduces a new “Notification Forwarding” option that lets iPhone alerts appear on a third-party wearable, such as a smartwatch. Important caveats apply: notifications can be forwarded to only one accessory at a time, and notifications will not display on Apple Watch when forwarding is enabled.

This feature lives in the Settings app under Notifications.

At present, the feature is limited to EU users, aligning with upcoming Digital Markets Act (DMA) requirements that compel Apple to permit third-party devices to display iPhone notifications. Apple has framed this as a privacy-focused concession but acknowledges the regulatory pressures driving the change. The company suggests that broader support may expand beyond the EU as the beta progresses.

Wallpapers
On the visual front, iOS 26.3 makes a small but helpful tweak to the Wallpapers section. The Weather and Astronomy wallpaper categories have been split into two distinct sections. The wallpapers themselves remain the same, but Apple has added a handful of new Weather-themed options.

Weather wallpapers continue to showcase live weather conditions for your current location, while Astronomy wallpapers reflect the current astronomical arrangement of Earth or the Solar System.

iOS 26.3 release date
Based on current patterns, iOS 26.3 is expected to land publicly in late January. For reference, iOS 18.3 shipped on January 27, while iOS 27.3 followed suit around January 22 in the prior year.

iOS 26.3 wrap-up
This update is shaping up to be more modest than iOS 26.2, at least in its early beta stages. However, it’s still early in the beta process, and there’s ample time for the feature set to grow before final release.
